Fresh Grapes
Grapes in this class are of good quality. In shape, development and
colouring. bunches are typical of the variety, allowing for the district
in which they are grown. Class I table grapes are carefully selected
and presented.
Berries are firm, firmly attached and, as far as possible. have their
bloom intact, They may, however, be less evenly spaced along the stalk than
in the ''Extra'' Class. Traces of missing bloom due to handling ar allowed

Specification:
- clean, practically free of any visible foreign matter. Table grapesmust
be practically free of visible soil, dust, chemical residue orother
foreign matter. However, as it is not possible to clean the berriesof
table grapes before eating. chemical residue, soil, dust, sooty mouldor
pollution by mealy bug secretion is not allowed.
- practically free from pests. Table grapes mustbe free of insectsor
other pests. The presence of pests can detract from commercial presentationand
acceptance of the table grapes.
- free from damage caused by pests affecting the flesh. Pest damagecan
detract from general appearance and affect the keeping quality andedibility
of the table grapes.
- free of abnormal external moisture. This provision applies to excessivemoisture.
for example free water lying inside the package, but doesnot include
condensation on produce following release from cool storageor refrigerated
vehicle.
- free of any foreign smell and/or taste. This provision applies totable
grapes stored or transported under poor conditions which haveconsequently
resulted in their absorbing mells and/or tastes, in particularthrough
the proximity of other product which give off volatile odours.
In all classes, subject to the special provisions for each class and
the tolerances allowed. bunches and berries are:
- Table grapes showing the following defects are therefore excluded:
- shrivelled berries or wilted rachis (stalk) and pedicels (cap stems)
- split berries
- deterioration or alteration of the skin or pulp caused by fungalarediseases:
- black rot (Guignardia bidwellii)
- powdery mildew (Uncinula necator)
- anthracnose (Elsinoe ampelina)
- grey mould (Botrtis cinera)
